Toughman Half Washington Ocean Shores* Triathlon

Ocean Shores Tri & Foot Fest Summary

    OS Toughman Logo11th Annual ~ Tri & Foot Fest | Sat & Sun, July 11th & 12th, 2015

*NOTE: This is a fresh water swim

Join us for a weekend filled with running, biking and swimming race events! The Ocean Shores Big Weekend Tri & Foot Fest hosts no fewer than eleven race events, including a half iron relay, half iron triathlon, a Olympic relay triathlon, a Olympic and sprint triathlon, a half iron and Olympic distance Duathlon (Bike/Run) a 13.1-mile half marathon, a 10K and a 5K race, and a triathlon for kids. For the participants and families of the participants who flock to this beach community along the Washington coastline very summer, dating back to the event’s first running in the summer of 2006, they are sure to have plenty of options.

All of the day’s races start and finish at North Bay Park, the city’s largest park and a popular local spot for outdoor recreation ranging from sports on land like tennis and basketball to lots of water sports, as the park lies along the northern edge of Ocean Shores’ Duck Lake. From the park, those running the half marathon will follow an out-and-back loop course in a counter-clockwise direction around the peninsula.

Runners will get to see plenty of the scenery for which Ocean Shores is known along the half marathon route, which crosses bridges and takes runners out for a roughly mile-and-a-half stretch along the beach in the race’s first few miles. After heading back onto the roadway, runners then head down to the peninsula’s southern end, where they make their way around the edges of the Oyhut Wildlife Recreation Area along the shore, and then head north along the shoreline of North Bay before making their way back to the finish line at North Bay Park.

Triathletes share the same run course, swim in Duck Lake and are presented with a bike ride along scenic roads with the occasional deer on the side of the roads, as well as views of the ocean.  With the exception of some very minor changes in elevation in the first few miles of the race, both the triathlon and run events are on mostly flat terrain, especially in the second half of the race, which is nearly all flat.

If you’re looking to have a great weekend that caters to both activities for athletes as well as fun filled opportunities for families and their kids, then the Ocean Shores Big Weekend Tri & Foot Fest is sure to provide an amazing experience.

    Swim Waves:

All swim waves will be self select and will start in 3 to 5 minutes increments based on how many participants are in each category.  By self select we mean that you decide what wave you want to go in.  The system is designed to let the competitive swimmers go first, then the not so competitive swimmers.  It provides a safe environment where nobody has to get swam over like some events have happen a lot.  It works great, and allows both men and women that are faster swimmers to compete against each other. :-)

    Course Cut Off Times:

Triathlon Cut Off Times: Cut Off Time for the 1/2 Iron and all other events is: 3:30 pm. Runners should be starting their 2nd lap for the 1/2 iron at 1:45 pm or will be required to withdraw from the race.  Total time to finish is 8 1/2 hours.  Athletes wishing to finish after these times will be required to do so without their bib number on and without the support of the race. The duathlon is a run, bike and then run. The start of the run will be at the same time as swim for the equal length triathlon. Duathlon runners will do a mass start right outside the transition area to avoid crossing paths with the full triathlon athletes.

Run Event Cut Off Times:  Cut Off Time for the 1/2 Marathon, and all other running events is 12:00 pm.

Athletes’s Course Meeting and Swim Clinic:

Along with a complete course overview, BASE Training is offering a free swim clinic at the Ocean Shores Packet Pick-up at the Ramada Inn Hotel and Resort at 7:30 pm on Friday July 11th. The clinic will be covering detailed information on Total Immersion swim techniques with emphasis on triathlon open water swims.  After a short presentation, we will have a chance to see a demonstration of Total Immersion swim technique from Coach Ryan in the hotel pool and you will have a chance to jump in a try out a few of the drills and tips for yourself.  So, bring your swimsuits and get ready to swim with greater efficiency and less effort.

To reserve your spot, send an email to info@trifreaks.com.

2013 TriFREAKS Ocean Shores Tri and Foot Fest

2013 TriFREAKS Ocean Shores Tri and Foot FestThe Kid’s and Youth Triathlon is a great way for your kids to have a fun and semi competitive experience, as well as get an introduction to what a triathlon entails.  The kids will receive a finishers medal as well as a customized bib for the race.  T-Shirts are reserved for the adults, primarily because it is difficult to get shirts that will fit kids properly.  This will also be an untimed event, although unofficially we may keep times so you and your kids can see how they did.  Please note that we keep this an untimed event primarily because we want the kids to have fun.  In 2015 we may add a longer course for kids that will be timed.  We are currently in discussion with a national brand to bring on a kids series that takes place on a national level.  we will keep you all informed of what happens here as things progress.

Following below are the swim, bike and run course for the kids/youth event. Click the links to open an interactive map that you can use to zoom in/out and pan around the maps:

Ocean Shores Tri & Foot Fest Bike Support

gerks.ski.cycleTriFreaks is delighted to announce that Gerk’s Ski & Cycle is providing bike support for the Ocean Shores Tri & Foot Fest.  In their own words:

At Gerk’s, we pride ourselves on realizing and serving the needs of the customer. Whether you are in for an “on the spot” flat repair or adjustment, or you came in for a complete bicycle purchase, you will leave Gerk’s knowing that you received the best service possible.

The first thing we do differently is taking the time to properly educate the customer. Few people walk into a store knowing exactly what they want or even what the bike industry offers to serve the needs and experiences of an ever diverse population. We will make sure you know what the possibilities are and help you find the bicycle that suits your riding style, budget and emotional connection.

Once the selection is narrowed down to a few bikes, we understand a test ride isn’t a test ride unless the bike is properly adjusted and sized to each individual. What are the odds that you’ll love a bike if we don’t take the time to make it fit just as it will once it is yours? Every customer at Gerk’s goes through a pre-ride assessment and bicycle adjustment to make sure the saddle position and body position are just right for a fair test. Once this happens, a true test ride can occur and you will find the bike that fits and feels the best to soon call yours.

We urge you to visit either of our two eastside locations and experience what it is like to be served by people that truly have your best cycling interests in mind. We look forward to seeing you and helping you enjoy cycling to its fullest.

    Purchasing your bicycle at Gerk’s:

Gerk’s Ski & Cycle has developed a reputation for offering unrivaled customer service to our customers since we opened in 2004. Our enthusiastic and knowledgeable staff is always ready to make your bicycle buying experience exceed your expectations. We believe that every cyclist should be fit properly so they can enjoy riding from the first pedal stroke. That’s why every bike purchase includes our Bike Sizing Fit and one year of unlimited maintenance to get you started right.
