Federal Escape Triathlon Summary

The Federal Escape Triathlon Has Been Cancelled for this year and the foreseeable future!  For more information please visit our blog post on the cancellation at: Federal Escape Triathlon Cancellation Notice.

This year the Federal Escape Triathlon features a sprint and Olympic distance triathlon and Aquabike’s, as well as a Tri for Kids at beautiful Five Mile Park in Federal Way Washington.  This will be our 8th year putting this event on, and like last year we are looking forward to making sure you all have a great time.  The course is the same as the last two years, so if you are looking to see how you measure up to your prior results, this is a great way to do so.  In an effort to provide all of you a better and safer experience we will be starting the event one hour earlier this year.  Now I know 6:30 am seems awfully early, and I can’t agree more with you because I’m not an early bird myself, however starting this early means we have less traffic on the roads and therefore a better race for you!  The Federal Escape Triathlon will feature a race expo, DJ & Live announcer, post race food, and more, and will be certain to be a memorable event.  This is both a family friendly and also competition friendly event.  And if you have children, make sure to bring them so they can have fun as well.

As last year, we are pleased to continue our relationship with the Supply Kids Foundation to help raise school supplies for elementary aged children in economic hardship regions and regions affected by natural disasters.  More info on them a bit further down the page.

We are extremely pleased to announce that the Federal Escape Triathlon has again been selected to be the Washington State Best Of The US Qualifier for 2013. For more information on the Best Of The US Qualifier, please visit Best Of The US Qualifier Home Page.

    Federal Escape Triathlon Course Details

Before we cover the course info, please note the following:

If you are participating in the Federal Escape Triathlon then knowing the course is 100% your responsibility. So make sure you familiarize yourself with the course and ask any questions you have before the event. Courses will be marked well, and we will do our part to make sure you know where to go. However, ultimately it is YOUR responsibility to know the course. If you ask anyone other than race officials, (volunteers are NOT considered race officials) and they point you the wrong way, it is STILL your responsibility if you end up going the wrong way. Those are USAT rules, and this is a USAT Sanctioned Race, so again, do your part and know the course and take a close look at the course maps.

Information for the Kid’s & Youth Triathlon Courses can be found at the bottom of this page.

Federal Escape Triathlon Food, Award & Swag

    Post Race Food:

Pancakes & Breakfast Sausage Brunch, Peanut Butter, Bananas/Fruit, Bread and/or Bagels.

    Awards & Swag:

All athletes receive a finishers medal. Awards for both the sprint and Olympic distances will be announced at the times posted on the weekend schedule on the “Event Details” tab. We realize that the faster athletes may need to wait a bit for the awards ceremony. In fairness to everyone, and to promote sportsmanlike conduct, please get comfortable, stick around, and cheer those on that may not be as fast as you are. They are working just as hard, and in some cases much harder to get to the finish line and deserve to be cheered as much as everyone else.

Awards will be given for the following placements:

    • 1st, 2nd & 3rd overall male & female for Sprint & Olympic Triathon’s receive a trophy.
    • 1st, 2nd & 3rd male & female triathlon age group winners receive award plaques.
    • 1st, 2nd & 3rd male & female aquabike winners receive award plaques.*
    • 1st, 2nd & 3rd overall relay teams.

*Note: Age groups will be in increments of 10. Under 19, 20 to 29, 30 to 39, etc… up to 69, and then one group for 70 and over.  Aquabike age groups do not receive awards.  At this time there are not enough participants in these categories, and every single person would receive an award, which kind of defeats the purpose of having awards.

*Please note that due to the limited number of participants in the clydesdale and athena groups we are not able to provide separate awards for these divisions. They will still receive their USAT rankings as such, however will be grouped into the regular awards for the awards ceremony. We appreciate your understanding, and assure you that we will watch and make sure to change this policy as the participation in these categories grows.

NOTE: The Kids triathlon is free of charge.  There will be timing for it, however children do NOT receive shirts or medals unless we happen to have some left over.

Post race swag will include the T-Shirts. If you registered late ( 30 days or less before the event ) you will receive both the T-Shirt and your finishers medal when you hand in your timing chip at the finishers line.  Otherwise you will have gotten your shirt at packet pickup and will receive your finishers medal at the finish.

Here’s a preview of last years shirt. We will post updated artwork for 2012 swag as we get closer to the event.
