Now if you’re wondering if you can do this race, our answer to you is absolutely! We’ve done this ride and run ourselves with moderate training, and in the years past we’ve had all kinds of folks do this event. Including those doing it on Mt. Bikes with knobby tires. So don’t limit yourself, have fun, get out, and sign up!
And if that’s not convincing enough, then motivate yourself to sign up to help the Tieni Duro Junior Cycling Development. The Tieni Duro is a Lafayette, California-based Junior Cycling Development Team that was founded in 2002 with the goal of getting as many kids on bikes as possible and teaching them how to become competitive athletes and high-performing young men and women. The team has a focus on road and track racing, though some of the kids also race cyclocross, cross country, and even downhill mountain biking. Tieni Duro has grown organically through the commitment of its founders, coaches, and supporters to produce California State and U.S. National champions. Find out more about them at their Home Page.
Where is the DiabloMan Triathlon Held:
The DiabloMan Triathlon starts at the Club Sport Valley Vista pool and proceeds to the beautiful Mt. Diablo State Park, all the way up the scenic North Gate Road, to the peak of Mt. Diablo. You’ll experience a breathtaking sunrise, and if you’re lucky, like we were last year, a pillow of clouds that settled around the mountain and made all of us feel like we were floating in the air with the whole mountain top. All while the sky over us was completely clear. It was Epic!
The address for Club Sport Valley Vista is:
3737 Valley Vista Road
Walnut Creek, CA 94598

They will start every 15 minutes ( or sooner if all folks are done swimming from the previous waves ) at 7:00 am and will run through 1:00 pm. Details are above in the weekend schedule. We recommend if you anticipate that you will need more than 1 hour and 30 minutes for the bike section that you sign up for a wave prior to 12:30 pm.
Course Cut Off Times:
With the exception of the final waves there really aren’t any cut off times. Waves going last will need to be done with their bike and run by 3:30 pm, which gives the 1:00 pm waves 2 1/2 hours to finish.
Timing For The Event:
Timing for the DiabloMan Triathlon will be done using Webscorer. This is an iPad based timing software that allows us to get accurate results without using timing chips. Your results, once you are done, and presuming we have a wireless connection at all times, will be available right away. Final results will be available once everyone finishes, since we start folks at different times we will need to wait until then to determine the fastest times.
Packet Pickup Information:
Packet Pickup times are different for the Kid’s/Youth Triathlon and the Adult Sprint Triathlon. Please note the differences and plan accordingly:
NOTE: Storewide 10% discount at Walnut Creek Sports Basement for all athletes picking up their packets.
Start Area Check In:
For the Kid’s/Youth Triathlon & Splash ‘N Dash Check in at the start area is Saturday at Club Sport Valley Vista. Check the Weekend Schedule above for specifics on time, and your assigned wave time. Allow yourself enough time to set-up before the race. We recommend showing up at least one hour before the race. As a general rule of thumb, the Youth Triathlon (12 to 15) will go first, then the Kid’s Triathlon (Ages 8 to 11) will go second, and then the Splash ‘N Dash Triathlon (Ages 5 to 7) will go last.
For the Adult Sprint Triathlon Check in at the start area is Sunday at Club Sport Valley Vista. Check the Weekend Schedule above for specifics on time, and your assigned wave time. Allow yourself enough time to set-up before the race. We recommend showing up at least one hour before the race. The Adult Sprint Triathlon is a two transition area race. T1 (Transition Area 1) at Club Sport Valley Vista is where you will check in the morning of the race. You will be required to bring a backpack that contains your T2 (Transition Area 2) gear. You be required to give this backpack to the T2 Bag Drop Off Shuttle. Check the times it runs on the above Weekend Schedule to determine by when you need to have it handed off. We will provide numbers for you to number your bag with. If you don’t properly tag your backpack with your number and hand it off to us then we are not responsible for any delays you will experience at T2 when you transition. The shuttle will transport the bags to the top and as you come in to T2 your bag will be handed to you. Make sure you have your bib visible so we can get you your bag quickly. Everybody will need to transition this way the same way, so how you organize your bag will determine how quickly you can get out of T2. You will collect your belongings and backpack after you finish and will wear your backpack down. The ride back is all downhill! We’ll be able to make limited exceptions to bring backpacks down for you, however will not be able to do so until after everyone is finished. So you may need to wait to get it.
Event Parking:
Mount Diablo State Park Entrance Fees:
Before we cover the course info, please note the following:
For this year the course for DiabloMan has changed slightly. Mount Diablo State Park has asked us to move the run off the road partially, so only one way foot traffic will be on the paved course. As a result we have moved the T2 transition area to the large parking lot on the top of Mount Diablo. This makes the bike portion a little longer for a true 13.1 sprint ride, allows us to have more room, and makes the first section of the run flat and then downhill. The run course will be 2.9 miles. For further information on the bike and run courses, see the appropriate sections below. All in all we feel this is a better course, that will keep the run challenging, make it safer and hopefully more rewarding and enjoyable.
DiabloMan Sprint Triathlon Transition Areas:
There are two transition areas for this race. The first is at Club Sport Valley Vista, which is where you will transition from your swim to your bike. The second is at the top of Mount Diablo at the large parking lot before you take the last short road to up to the visitors center. Don’t worry, we are not sending you up this hill short but brutal hill this year. You’ll turn into the large parking lot with your bike and transition to your run here. You can see the individual legs of the course by visiting the sections below. They also provide more information, along with the “Event Details” tab, on how to make sure you have your gear to transition. For a map of the transition areas, click the map links below:
DiabloMan Sprint Triathlon Swim Course:
The Swim is in the Club Sport Valley Vista swimming pool. The swim length is 450 yards and will start at 7:00 am. Waves of 12 athletes will enter the pool and swim every 15 minutes. If athletes are not finished at 15 minutes they will be allowed to exit with full credit. If all athletes are done with the swim before the 15 minutes are up then we will start the next wave early, so make sure you plan ahead and show up to the race at least an hour before your scheduled wave.
Post Swim Bags: Athletes may leave any gear behind at T1 along with bags with their race number. The bag will be held at the transition area until you return.
DiabloMan Sprint Triathlon Bike Course:
The Bike Course is a 13.1 mile bike from the Club Sport Valley Vista parking lot to the lower large summit parking lot area. The course has an elevation gain of 3,461 feet, for an absolutely epic experience. The views are breathtaking, and this is one ride you will not forget. Note that you are responsible for either transporting anything you will need for your run up the hill to T2, or making sure it gets to us at T1 by no later than the times announced in the “Weekend Schedule” on the above “Event Details” tab for the T2 Bag Drop Shuttle times. We supply bags for this purpose, however STRONGLY recommend you use a backpack of your own if you have it. It will make identifying your belongings easier as well as bringing your items back from T2 easier. Numbers to tag your bag with, that correspond with your bib number will be supplied at Packet Pickup. After you are done with the race you will need to use your backpack to take your gear back down the mountain.

DiabloMan Sprint Triathlon Run Course:
The Run Course is 2.92 miles long. It starts at the large parking lot at the Summit, heads out to Summit Rd., where you will take a left and then head down to where the Juniper Trail intersects with Summit Rd. Here you will get on the Juniper Trail, and head down it until you get to the intersection of Moses Rock Ridge, where you will take a left onto Moses Rock Ridge and then another immediate left back onto Summit Rd. You’ll head back up Summit Rd. towards the top until you get to where the Summit Trail intersects with Summit Rd. Here you will get on the Summit Trail and use the trail to get back to the large parking lot at the top. Once you get to the parking lot you’ll take another left and go through the Finish Line Arch! The aid station will be where you get off of Moses Rock Ridge onto Summit Rd and will be monitored by volunteers writing down the numbers of the athletes. Make sure to yell your number as you go by so that they don’t miss you. Take a close look at the run map (Interactive Map Link Below) to get a more detailed illustration of the run course. Swim: The swim for Youth is 400 yards, the Kid’s triathlon is 100 yards and the Splash ‘N Dash is 25 yards. The first wave will start at 10:00am. Youth will go first, then the Kid’s, and then the Splash ‘N Dash divisions. How many waves each division takes up depends on how many sing up for each category. We will post specific wave category times as we get closer to the race.
IMPORTANT: Wave assignments for each division are on a first come first serve basis on the day of the race. Kids will set up their transition areas and head directly over to the swim start. As they enter the area they will be allowed to sign for the next available swim wave. All swimmers are required to be at the pool by 9:45 am!

Packet Pickup Questions
