Federal Escape Special Olympics Fundraiser Drive

The Puyallup Police Department, TriFREAKS, Inc. and Special Olympics Washington are joining forces to raise money to support Special Olympics Athletes. Founded in 1968 by Eunice Kennedy Shriver and the Joseph P. Kennedy Foundation, Special Olympics formed to improve the lives of the intellectually disabled. Special Olympics invited the world to let go of limiting views, prejudices and misconceptions about people with intellectual disabilities and embrace the idea that they can be respected, valued and contributing members of society. Today, the Special Olympics movement includes almost 1.7 million athletes who train and compete in 26 sports through more than 200 programs in more than 150 countries around the world. Despite that growth, the Special Olympics movement touches less than 1 percent of the estimated 170 million people around the world with intellectual disabilities.
The vision of Special Olympics is to help bring all persons with intellectual disabilities into the larger society under conditions whereby they are accepted, respected and given the chance to become useful and productive citizens. There is no charge to Special Olympics athletes to participate in the movement. Individual donors, corporate partners and many others make it possible for Special Olympics to offer children and adults with intellectual disabilities the opportunity to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage and experience joy through participation in the program.
Last year the Puyallup Police Department set a goal to raise $30,000.00 for this great cause and with overwhelming generosity and support from Puyallup Service Clubs, Businesses, and citizens we were able to raise over $28,000.00. We believe in 2010 with your help and generosities that we can surpass last years total and raise over $35,000.00. In six years time the Puyallup Police Department has raised over $150,000.00 for Special Olympics Washington Athletes. Overall Law Enforcement in Washington State raised over $500,000 in 2009.
